About The Position

The Research Assistant Professor in Military History at Texas Tech University is a full-time, 12-month position focused on conducting historical research related to locating American MIAs from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The role involves collaboration with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, supervising graduate students, and teaching upper division courses in military history. The position aims to enhance research and scholarship in the fields of war and society, global peacemaking, and conflict resolution.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in U.S. History with a concentration in military history.
• Fluency in English and Vietnamese, with a basic knowledge of French.
• Experience teaching collegiate upper division courses in military history and survey courses in U.S. History.
• Demonstrated knowledge of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War through research projects and coursework.
• Record of peer-reviewed publication(s) or evidence of international conference presentations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct historical research to assist in locating American MIAs from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
• Consult with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii and Detachment 2 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
• Conduct research and assist other researchers at the Vietnam Center and Sam Johnson Vietnam Archive at Texas Tech University.
• Supervise graduate students on translation projects.
• Teach upper division courses in military history, including The History of 'Small' Wars and Monuments, Memory and Commemoration.
• Translate documents from Vietnamese and French to English and vice versa.
