About The Position

The full-time Research Assistant will work within Dr. Jin Wei’s research team within the Section of Nephrology, and will focus on the role of the juxtaglomerular apparatus in regulating renal hemodynamics and systemic blood pressure. Responsibilities of the Research Assistant will include performing experiments, taking care of animals, collecting and analyzing data, maintaining accurate research records, and assisting with general laboratory operations. The Research Assistant will support the Principal Investigator and research team in executing research projects, interpreting data, preparing presentations, manuscripts, and grant applications. The Research Assistant will perform bench work, animal surgeries, collect and analyze data, generate data, prepare manuscripts, and complete animal care tasks. The position will support the Principal Investigator and research team in collaborative projects. The Research Assistant will also assist with laboratory management and daily operations, including maintaining laboratory organization and inventory control. The Research Assistant must be able to maintain compliance with all laboratory safety regulations.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in biology, biomedical sciences, physiology, or a related field is required by time of hire.
  • Ability to follow detailed experimental protocols and maintain accurate research records.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
  • Must be able to follow laboratory safety procedures and institutional animal care regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with molecular biology, biochemistry, or physiology techniques, such as PCR, Western blot, histology, cell culture, or microscopy, is preferred
  • Prior experience in wet-lab research is preferred.
  • Experience working with animal models (e.g., mice) and surgical techniques is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in data collection and provides feedback on study’s progress.
  • Recruits subjects to participate in the study by using approved methodologies, such as, reaching to healthcare providers for referrals, visiting clinics, sending mailouts, using approved advertisements, etc.
  • Conducts the enrollment of study participants, including explaining research procedures, and obtaining informed consent of subjects and/or their families.
  • Schedules appointments of study participants; conducts reminder phone calls and/or sends mailouts.
  • Obtains and distributes payment vouchers for participant reimbursements/participation.
  • Responsible for the administrative aspects of the research study, including: managing program records and handling communication needs of the program.
  • Prepares and maintains Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals and correspondence, including amendments and renewals as necessary.
  • Perform administrative duties associated with the study’s Data Monitoring and Safety Board, tracking and reporting adverse events and collecting data specified by the DSMB.
  • Responsible for all other administrative duties related to research activities.
