About The Position

The Research Assistant position in the Soil Microbial Ecology Laboratory at Saint Louis University involves supporting an interdisciplinary research team focused on soil sampling and greenhouse gas measurements. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (preferred Master) in Microbial Ecology, Microbiology, Ecology, Soil Science and Biogeochemistry, or related field.
  • Experience in field work (soil sampling etc.) and driving a car.
  • Experience with DNA extraction and PCR.
  • Evidence of excellence in communicating science.
  • Ability to take a leadership role for specific components of the project associated with soil sampling, processing, and analyses of some nutrients data.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a productive member of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the research team in conducting soil sampling and greenhouse gas measurements in the field.
  • Determine the net and potential nitrification/denitrification rates in soils collected in agroecosystems.
  • Setup greenhouse gas chamber and collect greenhouse gas samples.
  • Perform basic DNA extraction and PCR.
