About The Position

The Research Assistant provides skilled, administrative, and technical support in research. Assists with phases in a research project. Assists in preparing proposals for funding agencies, operations of research equipment, and other lab/field personnel in research. Collaborate with other research personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to orally comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff, groups of various sizes
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.
  • Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Experience with using and troubleshooting general laboratory equipment
  • Able to sit or stand extended periods of time.
  • General ability to manipulate and safely use laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to move light, medium or heavy objects with assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the design, planning, and coordination of experiments in support of various research projects.
  • Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research and keeps detailed record of data.
  • Assists in the installation and operation of research equipment.
  • May repair research equipment.
  • Uses and computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.
  • Evaluates and summarizes experiment results.
  • Assists in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies; maintains financial accounts related to research projects.
  • Assists with reports, invoices, and cataloging records.
  • Coordinates with the Principal Investigator on the priorities and objectives of research experiments conducted.
  • Maintains storage upkeep and inventory of liquid nitrogen cell line, chemical Inventories, animal inventory and make sure labs are inspection ready.
  • Purchases chemicals for experiments, software updates for computers, and Consumables.
  • Aids in purchasing animals for experiments.
  • Animal care, husbandry, maintenance of breeding and aging colony (including upkeep of transgenic colony).
  • Blood draw, Behavioral testing such as: Barnes maze, open field, Social interactions, NORT, Burrowing and animal perfusion.
  • Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.
