The Research Assistant III Animal Operations will serve as an extension of the leadership team, supporting operational excellence, supporting team accountability, help lead continuous improvement within their area. While this role does not include direct reports, it requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and leadership presence. Assigns resources to meet budgetary needs. Inspire and lead through effective relationship building, influencing stakeholders, and removing barriers for others. Drive continuous improvement through operational areas with a visible and dynamic leadership presence. Provide input to strategy and development plans for increased business and people development. Strong emphasis on animal welfare, employee engagement, safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency, cost control/reduction. Scheduling & Task Management- Micro/Macro scheduling (assignment of staff to non-specialty events) as required and in conjunction with the supervisor. Coordinating scheduling for future schedule changes and communication of same-day schedule changes. Create and manage area/domain-specific schedules, including weekend coverage. Responsible for overseeing study work across multiple rooms and revenue streams. Ensure coverage for staff absences, PTO, training, and other disruptions. Welfare – ensure all animals are maintained in accordance with regulations and concerns are reported promptly and accurately. Collaborate with Subject Matter Expert(s) to resolve area/domain-specific challenges. Proficiency monitoring/continued competence monitoring and skill assessment. Performance feedback to the supervisor for team members. Conduct study initiations and key study events – ensure feedback to the team on key study essentials, and in conjunction with the supervisor. Co-lead team meetings (at least monthly, ideally every other week). Status updates to check completeness of data and tasks, including Huddles/Short Interval Follow Ups (SIFUs)/Monitoring & reporting on progress through the day – check for completeness of data and tasks. Area/domain updates & continuous improvement. Lead updates to applicable forms, SOPs, etc. in conjunction with the relevant SME. Support initiatives to reduce paper-based data. In conjunction with training teams, refine training materials and processes. Contribute to or lead area/domain-related projects. Vivarium cleanliness, regulatory preparedness, ownership, and oversight. Data management process oversight. Security screening support.
