About The Position

Through a collaboration between Harvard Medical School Office for Research Initiatives and Global Programs and the Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the Program in Global Primary Health Care (PGPHC) aims to create high-quality, sustainable primary health care systems that advance health equity. Our theory of impact focuses on recentering health care systems toward people and communities, where the majority of care is delivered at the primary care level through a people-centered approach. We do this through research, education, advocacy, and implementation science in collaboration with governments, community organizations, private sector partners, non-governmental organizations, and people with lived experience. We are seeking a research assistant (RA) to support various global health delivery research projects within PGPHC. This will involve technical components, including developing research designs and implementation protocols, overseeing and conducting data collection and analysis and preparing manuscripts as well as project management to ensure timely execution of the workplans. The RA will also provide general administrative support for various projects, including for example, meeting and event coordination and award submissions. The candidate will have the opportunity for mentorship from BWH faculty with extensive experience in global health delivery research. The candidate will need to be extremely organized and hardworking, and demonstrate passion to promote global health equity in their career. Standard knowledge of research design and analysis of data is required, as well as excellent communication skills. Willingness to learn about implementation science, co-design approaches to interventions and principles of person-centered care is needed. Experience living or working in low-resource settings and/or with marginalized communities is ideal. The position also includes opportunities for international travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Science required
  • Relevant research and data management experience 1-2 years required, including manuscript development
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
  • Intermediate computer literacy including database tools.
  • Knowledge of data management programs.
  • Ability to follow directions and exhibit professionalism, and work more independently.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and carry out designated research tasks and projects, applying quantitative and qualitative study tools aimed at documenting the design, delivery, and outcomes of people-centered care, particularly in the primary healthcare setting;
  • Lead and/or contribute to the development of research manuscripts, including conceptualization, analysis, and writing with supportive supervision;
  • Collate, organize, and/or draft material for the preparation of research papers, manuscripts, progress reports, grant applications, articles or other documents for publication and/or presentation;
  • Provide logistical and technical support to various research partners and working groups, which includes developing meeting agendas, documenting meetings, recording tasks and deadlines to stakeholders, monitoring progress towards group objectives and ensuring high-quality outputs
  • Handles a significant amount of detailed work as it relates to project management, monitoring & evaluation, coordination of project teams, and communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Submit periodic reports of project status to supervisor, regularly suggesting additional steps or modifications in current procedures;
  • Travel (1-2 times/year, including international travel) to participate in and support programmatic activities.
