About The Position

The Research Assistant II performs lab procedures, basic research, maintenance, and administrative duties under a Principal Investigator. This role involves assisting with the development of policies and procedures, managing biospecimens, and supporting various research projects. The Research Assistant II will also be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, documenting results, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2 years of experience in a related field
  • Knowledge of basic lab techniques including pipetting, staining, culture techniques and aliquoting
  • Able to perform basic lab maintenance tasks
  • Knowledge of quality control
  • Expertise of safety practices related to work performed
  • Skilled in use of computer software related to research needs
  • Able to instruct others in lab and safety protocols

Responsibilities

  • Assists with development of Policies and Procedures
  • Biospecimen receipt
  • Biospecimen processing (e.g., Plasma, serum, PBMCs, buffy coats, whole blood)
  • Aliquoting Biospecimen labeling
  • Biospecimen accessioning
  • Curation of sample quality metadata
  • Freezing, storing, and shipping samples
  • Create/prep kits for various research projects
  • May obtain patient consent
  • Assist in study management
  • May manage individual research projects if delegated by the official 'workflow' for that project, regulatory binders, delegation logs etc.
  • Phlebotomy (optional)
  • Assist in minutes of weekly scheduled Biorepository Operations Meeting
  • Assists in creation and curates project-specific 'Workflow' documents
  • Reagent materials management. Maintains supplies/equipment inventory
  • Manages Proficiency Testing program
  • Communicates with IRB and submits IRB documentation as needed (i.e., continuing review, KSP)
  • Any other tasks as assigned by management
  • Performs assays and research procedures according to lab standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Records experimental techniques and data following laboratory protocol
  • Calculates test results accurately for statistical purposes
  • Examines, interprets, compiles, and reports results to the Principal Investigator
  • Maintains laboratory and equipment according to SOPs
  • Documents and reports problems to appropriate personnel
  • Participates in lab meetings
  • Assists in coordinating technical work to ensure effective and cost-efficient project completion
  • Teaches lab protocols and safety procedures to other lab members
  • Fulfills continuing education and regulatory requirements related to research performed including safety and compliance training
