About The Position

The Teichberg lab at the MBL seeks a highly motivated individual to join The Ecosystems Center as a temporary, full-time Research Assistant I to assist with the SEAGEN project. This project aims to develop biotechnology for in vitro cultivation of seagrasses and regeneration of seagrass tissue through callus formation. Tasks include starting and maintaining seagrass tissue cultures from seed, optimizing seed germination and seedling development in culture, setting up experiments to test methods of regeneration with different types of seagrass tissue and media, and microscopy and image analysis of tissue development. This position is primarily lab work with some fieldwork for seagrass sample collection. Position is temporary for 8 months but may be extended beyond this period if funding permits.

Requirements

  • Applicants should have an undergraduate degree (B.S. or B.A.), as well as some coursework and/or working experience in biotechnology in subject areas such as Biology, Plant Sciences, Marine Sciences, or other related topics.
  • Must have strong laboratory skills in preparation of reagents, media, sterilization techniques, and be familiar with general use of laboratory equipment.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team.
