Job Summary The Division of Surgical Oncology seeks a Research Assistant I (RA I) to support clinical, outcomes, and health services research across multiple surgical oncology programs. The RA I will work closely with faculty investigators, database managers, and biostatisticians to support the day-to-day conduct of research studies, including data collection, regulatory compliance, and study coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in a health, biological, or social science field preferred
  • Experience: 0-1 yrs, in clinical or health services research preferred
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and clinical data abstraction
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an academic medical center or healthcare setting
  • Familiarity with REDCap or similar research database platforms
  • Experience with IRB processes and human subjects research
  • Interest in surgical oncology, outcomes research, or health services research
  • Prior experience supporting peer-reviewed research projects

Responsibilities

  • Support data collection and abstraction for IRB-approved clinical, outcomes, and health services research studies
  • Abstract clinical data from the electronic health record and other institutional sources following standardized protocols
  • Enter and maintain data in research databases (e.g., REDCap), ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with study start-up activities, including IRB submissions, amendments, and continuing reviews
  • Maintain regulatory documents, study files, and required approvals in compliance with institutional policies
  • Coordinate with faculty investigators, trainees, and research staff to support study timelines and deliverables
  • Assist with preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, and grant materials as needed
  • Track study metrics, enrollment, and data completeness across projects
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including data audits and validation checks
  • Support multidisciplinary research meetings and project coordination efforts
