Works under general direction to provide responsible and skilled technical assistance in performing assignments requiring experience and good knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of medical and scientific research. The Mountoufaris Lab at UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a motivated Research Assistant I to join a newly established team studying the underlying mechanisms that regulate persistent affective states in both healthy and diseased mouse models. This position offers opportunities for authorship, collaboration, and advanced scientific and personal training within one of the top biomedical research institutions. Candidates with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Bioengineering, Chemistry, or a related field will be preferred. Additionally, candidates that have prior work experience with rodents and surgeries, MATLAB, Python, or cloud-based data will be highly considered. The ideal candidate will be responsible, with strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills. Lab duties will include maintaining rodent colonies and genotyping, operating SolidWorks, 3D printing, writing code for behavioral analysis, and assisting with surgeries and behavioral assays. A two year commitment is preferred. This position is ideal for candidates pursuing future careers in graduate school, medical school, or biotechnology.
