Works under general direction to provide responsible and skilled technical assistance in performing assignments requiring experience and good knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of medical and scientific research. Our laboratory investigates genetic programs in the brain. We are broadly interested in how chemical modifications on chromatin regulate brain development and disease. We utilize a variety of genetic, genomic and biochemical approaches to understand these mechanisms in detail. We are looking for an enthusiastic and responsible research technician to help investigate molecular mechanisms that control brain development and how dysregulation of these processes lead to autism spectrum disorders and other brain disorders. The position will involve analyzing novel mouse models of autism by using molecular, biochemical and genomic approaches. We expect to teach all the experimental and bioinformatic approaches that will be used in the research. In addition to performing experiments, the research assistant will also be responsible for mouse colony management and general lab management. Efficient organizational skills, attention to detail, accurate record keeping, and effective communication skills are essential. This is an ideal position for a recent college graduate interested in preparing for graduate or medical school.
