The Research Assistant in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at North Carolina State University will play a crucial role in supporting the research efforts of the Principal Investigator (PI) and graduate students in the Ahumada laboratory. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about entomology and plant pathology and are eager to contribute to innovative research projects. The Research Assistant will be responsible for managing multiple concurrent projects, analyzing data, and assisting in determining the next steps for various research initiatives. This includes methodological development and ensuring that all research activities are conducted efficiently and effectively. In addition to project management, the Research Assistant will engage in collaboration and communication with outside collaborators, providing essential research support. This involves managing culture collections, scheduling laboratory procedures, and working closely with both graduate and undergraduate students. The role also requires technical skills, including performing molecular benchtop work such as cell culture, ELISAs, and qPCR, as well as conducting field trials under the supervision of the PI. Documentation of all completed tasks is a critical aspect of this position to maintain accurate records of research activities. The Research Assistant will also be tasked with conducting literature reviews relevant to the research areas and assisting in the preparation of disease exploration protocols. This multifaceted role requires a strong commitment to research excellence and the ability to adapt to various tasks as assigned by the PI. The position is full-time, with a work schedule primarily from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, although occasional longer workdays or Saturday work may be required in case of emergencies.
