About The Position

The Research Assistant/Associate position at Newcastle University focuses on characterizing the complex inter-relationships between immune mediated inflammatory disorders (IMIDs) and the systemic drugs used for treatment, utilizing innovative artificial intelligence (AI) methodologies.   • Experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute ideas to enhance technical or methodological aspects of studies under the guidance of an academic or Principal Investigator.
  • Develop and carry out specified projects using appropriate techniques.
  • Determine appropriate methodologies for research with necessary support.
  • Assess research findings for further investigations.
  • Write proposals for individual research funding or contribute to collective bids.
  • Contribute to writing up research for publication and dissemination.
  • Present research findings at conferences or through publications.
  • Supervise final year undergraduate research projects and support postgraduate research students or Research Assistants.
  • Work with support staff and interact with other academic members of the Institute.
  • Contribute to public engagement events related to science/social sciences/humanities.
  • Ensure compliance with secure handling of data.
  • Assess, develop, and deploy semi-automated pipelines for data quality control and pre-processing of EHR and other relevant data.
  • Implement appropriate explainable ML/AI methods for clinical research questions.
  • Develop AI-based tools to assist clinicians in assessing risk.
  • Curate datasets to satisfy FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
  • Conduct extensive reading and literature review in relevant fields.
  • Engage in public/patient involvement/engagement (PPIE) in research.
