About The Position

The Research Assistant 3 position in the Hematology/Oncology department at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is a full-time role that requires a mid-level professional with a Bachelor's degree and at least four years of relevant work experience. This position is designed for individuals who can perform a wide variety of complex tasks with minimal supervision, demonstrating a practical understanding of scientific techniques and advanced knowledge of scientific theory. The successful candidate will be part of a dedicated team that conducts research and provides treatment for various adult cancers and hematological disorders. The role involves planning, conducting, and evaluating experiments and assays of varying complexity, as well as coordinating experiments in conjunction with the Principal Investigator (PI). In this position, the Research Assistant will be responsible for understanding and following experimental protocols, which may include animal handling and tissue culture. The role requires meticulous record-keeping, data compilation, interpretation, and communication of results. The Research Assistant will also be expected to follow university safety protocols, perform calculations related to experimental procedures, and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies. Additionally, the candidate will assist in modifying procedures and techniques, recommend improvements to established protocols, and stay updated on scientific trends through literature reviews and attendance at relevant meetings and conferences. The Research Assistant will also prepare research progress reports, analyze and summarize test results, and present data as required. Training other employees and supervising projects or personnel may also be part of the responsibilities.
