About The Position

Genex Systems is looking for a Research Asphalt Chemist to support the Chemistry Laboratory at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC) in McLean, VA. Position Duties: Leading research projects on highway-related materials, including designing and conducting experiments, analyzing results, and proposing future research goals. Investigation, analysis, and interpretation of the composition and microstructure of pavement materials, mainly asphalt, using analytical techniques (FTIR, FTIR microscopy, XRF, and TGA). Identify and perform research linking composition of pavement materials to their overall microstructure and performance. Assisting the Laboratory Contract Manager by providing timely feedback on the status of the projects. Publishing FHWA reports, peer-reviewed journal manuscripts, and conference papers. Developing and presenting results at conferences and professional meetings.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Chemistry, Materials Science or related field

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of asphaltic materials, including asphalt binders and mixtures, maintenance and preservation materials, reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), recycled asphalt shingles (RAS), asphalt modifiers, and rejuvenators (e.g., bio-asphalts).
  • Experience with analytical techniques such as FTIR, TGA, XRF and ICP
  • Experience with Saturates, Asphaltenes, Resins and Aromatics (SARA) Analysis
  • Experience with coding for data processing.
  • Demonstrated recent publication experience.
