About The Position

The Research and Test Reactors (RTR) Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Professional role is responsible for providing RTR NDT support to the UPRR RTR Quality Control team. This position requires the use and knowledge of NDT methods to process products for inspection and develop operating and test procedures.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma with four (4) years of relevant NDT experience or an Associates degree in a related field.
  • Prior certification as an NDT level II technician or equivalent certification with adequate experience to certify to Level III per SNT-TC-1A standard in one or more of the following specialties required: Radiographic Testing, Ultrasonic Testing and Visual Testing. Ultrasonic Testing is given a preference.
  • Must be familiar with the scope and limitation of the methods which certified and capable of directing the work of trainees, NDT Level I, and NDT Level II inspectors.
  • Must be familiar with the codes, standards, and other contractual documents that control the NDT techniques.
  • Must be capable of developing processes, procedures, and equipment specifications based upon customer specifications.
  • Must possess strong technical writing skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment in order to anticipate and address complex technical issues.
  • Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes well-documented and appropriately executed NDT inspection techniques and methods for the verification of product attributes to working and design limits.
  • Sets up and calibrates equipment, conduct tests with appropriate NDT techniques; interpret, evaluate, and document results.
  • Develops and provides technical input for proposals and development activities.
  • Reviews existing customer requirements and verifies NDT requirement conformance.
  • Provides On-The-Job Training (OJT) to NDT trainees as well as NDT Level I and NDT Level II inspectors.
  • Oversees or assists the qualification of new and/or updated NDT equipment and troubleshoots existing NDT inspection equipment.
  • Develops and revises procedures to verify conformance to contract requirements.
  • Reviews NDT inspection data to working and design requirements.
  • Supports customer audits and inspections; performs internal audits and inspections.
  • Identifies and implements continuous improvement for NDT inspections.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
