The Research and Development (R & D) Design Engineer will report to the Sr. Manager, Design Engineering in Austin, TX. This role is a core member of the Food and Beverage engineering team acting as the conduit for long-term development initiatives, designing with manufacturing in mind while pushing the envelope of what is possible for the best product performance and user experience. YETI is looking for a highly motivated self-starting R & D Design Engineer with a proven track record of integrating innovative ideas into new products. You thrive in fast-paced environments with entrepreneurial DNA and are comfortable charting new territory. Your strong organizational skills allow you to stay on top of multiple projects at the same time. Your applied R D background allows you to research, create, review, support, and manage the development of new technologies or products. You have a natural curiosity and repeatedly ask the question, “Is there a better way?” You can trouble-shoot and problem-solve every different kind of product, manufacturing, or material challenge thrown your way. In fact, you love solving problems - the bigger the challenge, the more satisfying the resolution.

Requirements

• B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience
• Greater than 5 years of Design Engineering or R D experience, or a combination of both
• Proficient in 2D, 3D CAD software (Solidworks preferred)
• Experience with multi-component assemblies (mechanisms a plus)
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Ability to distill complex information into concepts a non-technical audience can understand
• Experience and knowledge of metal component fabrication preferred
• FEA analysis experience (ANSYS, Moldex3D preferred)
• Experience working directly with Marketing and Industrial Design teams preferred
• International product development experience preferred
• Manufacturing processes knowledge (injection molding, casting, sheet metal forming, etc.) preferred
• Material selection experience (glass, ceramic, glass-ceramic, coatings, etc.) preferred
• Domestic and international travel may be required (up to 15%)
• Must be able to work in the US without visa sponsorship required

Responsibilities

• Research and develop innovative products
• Manage multiple projects from ideation to hand-over
• Ability to work independently on multiple simultaneous projects
• Translate non-technical requests into technical performance requirements
• Establish product architecture including part breakout and material selection
• Create proof of principle prototypes
• Utilize CAD/CAE analysis tools to raise confidence in design
• Establish product manufacturing specifications and critical to quality metrics
• Scout for new technologies and new product ideas that are aligned with the product roadmap
• Work with internal and external labs to establish appropriate test criteria for new technologies
• Technical documentation of project progress as well as any functional or design constraints associated with the idea
