About The Position

Tosoh Bioscience LLC is a major supplier of chromatography products to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and chemical industries. Our product line includes:TSKgel, TOYOPEARL, and Ca++Pure-HA bulk media, TSKgel U/HPLC columns, process development products, dedicated systems for GPC analysis, and the LenS3 MALS detector. We have optimal solutions for biological research, drug discovery, medicinal chemistry, agriculture, manufacturing, or other industrial applications. Summary The major objective of this co-op position (under close supervision of a scientist) is to develop and optimize methods for packing resins into a variety of chromatography supports which will be commercialized for purification and analysis of biopharmaceuticals. The target biopharmaceuticals (aka biologics) include therapeutic proteins and nucleic acids used in cell and gene therapy. These biologics have become immensely important in the treatment of various chronic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, and infectious diseases. During the internship, the co-op student will learn laboratory and other skills described in this job profile.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of laboratory work, such as pipetting, buffer preparations, and use of standard laboratory instruments. Training will be provided.
  • Excellent writing skills to maintain laboratory notebook and to prepare technical reports.
  • Highly motivated individual that can exhibit an attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software, as well as intermediate to advanced software skills with PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and able to think creatively.
  • Able to learn quickly and work independently under general direction.
  • Responsible for mature attitude, teamwork, and time management.

Responsibilities

  • types and size supports. This includes preparing the resin, assembling the chromatography hardware, preparing solutions used in packing the columns, packing the chromatography column under variable conditions, and testing the performance of the column (ie. Asymmetry, theoretical plates, etc) following packing.
  • Other areas of research may include experiments to further characterize column performance including shelf-life stability studies, scale up, binding capacity, etc.
  • Conduct experiments and provide data, analyze results, and prepare reports in a timeline driven process and contribute to the efficient operation of R&D laboratories.
  • Learn the fundamentals of column chromatography in all the various modes and how they are used to achieve purification of a target.
  • Exercise technical judgment in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments, and use professional concepts to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways.
  • Maintain a laboratory notebook and other technical documentation according to required guidelines.
  • This is a laboratory-based position and, thus, anyone working in this environment will comply with all required training, and maintain a focused attention on laboratory safety for themselves and a team.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
