Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and Wednesday, Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW The GBH Education Department's mission is to work with communities to research, develop, and distribute quality media-integrated resources to support the equitable learning and development of children and youth. We aim to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people through research-based programming, partnerships with educators, communities, and community-based organizations. We are guided by an equity compass and seek to respond to specific community needs, include communities in the development of media and educational initiatives, and represent diverse people and stories throughout. We serve educators and learners in both in-school (prek-12) and out-of-school (informal) learning settings, and are co-leads of PBS LearningMedia (pbslearningmedia.org), public media’s, free service of digital learning resources that is typically accessed by over a million users a month. JOB OVERVIEW GBH Education seeks a Research Analyst to join our team. Reporting to the Director, Research & Learning, the Research Analyst will support quantitative and qualitative research, reporting, and data management for K-12 educational media and outreach projects. This position requires experience managing and reporting data across a variety of sources, strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, interest in developing new skills, and ability to work with a cross-functional team within GBH and with external partners. This position is a contract position for one year with possibility for an extension based on future funding. The position is in Boston, MA, and requires on-site presence at least two days per week.

Requirements

  • A strong interest in education with a particular focus on edtech, media, games, and other digital forms of learning
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail; able to multitask and prioritize based on dynamic conditions
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral
  • Independent and ability to translate technical language for a general audience
  • A self-directed worker who is also comfortable asking for help when needed
  • High degree of comfort with messy and complicated data
  • Bachelor’s degree required in social science, data analytics, data science or other relevant field or work experience required.
  • Experience or coursework in quantitative and qualitative research methods within a social science field (e.g., sociology, psychology, education) and statistics.
  • Experience with SQL and spreadsheet software (Excel/Google Sheets) and/or experience with scripting languages (R or Python) for data automation.
  • Experience with – or willingness to quickly learn – project management tools (e.g., Asana, Jira).

Responsibilities

  • Support senior staff in the development and execution of multiple projects on: Database Management & Dashboards. Extract, clean, and organize data from various platforms and sources into internal databases and dashboards. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining data flows, designing and updating dashboards, creating data visualizations, and generating data reports for internal and external audiences to support data-based messaging and storytelling.
  • Metrics Tracking and Reporting. Track engagement metrics across a variety of platforms and report relevant insights and trends. Responsibilities include reporting on website analytics, tracking marketing metrics (e.g., email opens, social reach) and attendance at webinars and outreach programs.
  • Research Support and Coordination. Support quantitative and qualitative research to inform and evaluate educational media projects. Responsibilities include programming surveys, organizing and scheduling research participations, managing transcription and qualitative coding, and conducting basic statistical analyses (e.g., descriptive statistics, t-tests, chi-square)
  • Project Management Support and Maintenance. Track and manage projects to ensure that projects are completed on-time and within scope. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining information in work management systems (e.g., Asana), creating and updating agendas and notes documents, and maintaining project records to support marketing and research efforts.
  • Production Assistance. Assist as needed with educational media production efforts. Responsibilities include creating and updating records into the content management systems and other databases, authoring and updating learning modules, creating and editing graphics, and providing other production support as needed.
