About The Position

The Strategy, Performance, and Projects Office of the State Court Administrator’s Office is seeking a Research Analyst II for the Court Research Office unit. The Court Research Office collects, analyzes, interprets, and shares data to guide strategic decision-making, ensure the integrity of electronic court records, and support the mission and vision of the Minnesota Judicial Branch. This professional position is responsible for managing complex court research projects and conducting advanced statistical, data and policy analysis. The person in this position also assists with fulfilling data requests and designing and maintaining business intelligence dashboards. The position is full-time, temporary with an end date of June 30, 2027. The position will be reviewed for permanent status in FY27. Work will be conducted in a hybrid or remote setting, with occasional required on-site days at the Minnesota Judicial Center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social science, public policy, judicial administration or related fields, including major course work in statistics, and/or research methodology, and/or information systems; AND
  • Three to five years of demonstrated experience designing and managing research/data projects and conducting advanced statistical analyses (advanced education can substitute for years of experience); AND 
  • Demonstrated proficiency with analytical/technical tools such as SQL, SPSS, R, Python, or other programming languages; AND
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with business intelligence tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Considerable knowledge of multivariate and interferential statistical methods.
  • Considerable knowledge of statistical sampling techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of survey design, questionnaire construction, and qualitative analysis techniques.
  • Ability to write SQL queries and work with large data sets from diverse sources to translate complex data structures into useful analytical files.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of all phases of research methodology, including research project design, project management, data analysis, interpretation of results, final report writing, and presentation of results to court leaders.
  • Skill in collaborating with others to determine information needs for projects or programs, including identifying research questions, data collection methods, and ongoing information needs.
  • Ability to translate complex research findings into easily understood terms for a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to work independently and manage shifting priorities based on day-to-day demands
  • Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work cohesively within a small team

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a related field.
  • More than five years of demonstrated experience designing and managing research/data projects and conducting advanced statistical analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Design, manage, and collaborate on complex court research projects.
  • Gather and interpret data from the statewide court case management system and other databases.
  • Respond to internal and external data requests by determining customer’s data needs, defining business requirements, and extracting data into useable formats.
  • Work with Research and IT staff on the design and development of reporting tools using business intelligence tools.
