About The Position

Rhodium Group is looking for an entrepreneurial and talented Research Analyst to join our world-class team of economists, policy and geopolitical analysts, researchers, and data engineers. As a Research Analyst in Rhodium Group’s China Practice, you will support the team’s research on one or several of the following issues of strategic interest to our public and private sector clients: China’s economy and macroeconomic policies China’s global trade and investment US, EU, and G7-China policy and economic dynamics China’s industrial and technology policy trends, and US-China tech competition Other China-related global trends Rhodium Group is expanding its expertise in the automotive, pharmaceutical, medtech, chemicals, critical minerals, and shipping sectors, as well as trade modeling, growth accounting, and industrial policy monitoring. Professional experience as an analyst in these industries is a plus.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in international economics, international affairs, China/Asia studies, political science, law, or other relevant fields; or a bachelor’s degree in similar fields plus at least two years of professional experience.
  • Strong understanding of China’s economy and macroeconomic policies, China-world trade and investment trends, as well as geopolitical dynamics, technology competition, industrial policy and subsidies, supply chain security, and regulatory trends influencing China’s economic engagement with the world.
  • Excellent research and data analysis skills with the ability to prepare clear and accurate reports of research results. Ability to synthesize policy developments and/or economic data into succinct and compelling stories.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to present information clearly and concisely through memos, reports, briefings, and other deliverables.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and capacity for self-directed work. The candidate should be capable of handling multiple time-sensitive projects at once and independently produce client-ready, polished outputs.
  • Near native-level English writing and speaking skills, as well as high degree of reading proficiency in Chinese (to include ability to quickly read, summarize, and extract key findings and nuance from Chinese-language newspaper articles and policy documents).
  • Strong proficiency with Excel for data analysis and visualization. Experience with economic and commercial databases, including CEIC, WIND, and Bloomberg Terminal.
  • Work authorization in the United States required.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional experience doing research on China to support decision-makers in government, business, or think tanks.
  • Demonstrated experience in sectoral or industry-level research in automotive, pharma, medtech, chemicals, critical minerals, shipping, and/or experience with trade modeling, growth accounting, or industrial policy analysis.
  • Proficiency in R or Python for data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide research support for client deliverables, including research notes, briefing decks, email alerts, etc.
  • Provide research and writing support for longer-form client projects.
  • Conduct regular tracking of news, policy developments, and key data indicators of interest to clients.
  • Contribute to the firm’s knowledge base on issues of interest to our public and private sector clients. This includes China’s economic policies, trade and investment relationships, industrial policy, international affairs, and sector-specific developments.
