The Research Aide will support research on improving hydropower operations while meeting downstream environmental constraints, with an emphasis on managing and forecasting river temperature impacts. They will integrate process-based reservoir/river temperature modeling with machine-learning surrogate models and explainable AI to identify the operational and climate drivers of temperature exceedances and other undesirable outcomes. Using these surrogates, they will help develop and test temperature-constrained optimization and scenario analysis workflowsthat quantify tradeoffs among energy production, environmental compliance, and water management objectives. The work will produce reproducible data pipelines, interpretable model diagnostics, and decision-relevant results to inform water and hydropower stakeholders under changing hydrology conditions. Education and Experience Requirements The entirety of the appointment must be conducted within the United States. Applicants must be: ‒ Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution. ‒ Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or ‒ Actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution.
