AC optimal power flow (AC-OPF) is a critical computation in power system operations, enabling least-cost dispatch of generation while satisfying physical network constraints, yet its nonconvex nature makes it difficult to solve efficiently at scale. This intern will join our team to investigate optimization algorithms that improve the speed and scalability of AC-OPF solvers, including approaches such as interior point methods, convex relaxations, and warm-starting strategies. The work will involve implementing and benchmarking these algorithms on standard test cases, analyzing solution quality and computational performance under varying system conditions. Through this project, the intern will develop practical expertise in mathematical optimization, power systems modeling, and the algorithmic techniques that underpin modern energy management systems. Education and Experience Requirements The entirety of the appointment must be conducted within the United States. Applicants must be: ‒ Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution. ‒ Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or ‒ Actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution. Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins. Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. If accepting an offer, must pass a screening drug test Must complete a satisfactory background check
