The Michigan Center for Translational Pathology (MCTP) is seeking a hybrid Research Administrator Senior to serve as the primary financial contact for the Michigan Prostate SPORE and to provide support for other research administration duties for the center. This multifaceted role requires management expertise to handle the various timelines, roles, and responsibilities associated with the grant. Additionally, it includes organizing and managing related activities directly with grant sponsors, such as reporting requirements and project coordination. This role will coordinate and manage budgets for financials specializing in both pre- and post-award activities. The preferred candidate will have experience within academic research settings and with UM policies and regulations to be able to interface with other institutions, departments, and offices within the university. The MCTP is a center under the umbrella of the Department of Pathology. The successful candidate for this position will have advanced knowledge of principles, practices and procedures used in research administration and will use this knowledge to continue to build on our high level of customer service. The ability to contribute independently, take strategic initiative and communicate clearly are key to success in this role.   • Oversee the grant submission process, from initial start to final submission, including development of timelines for various components of proposals.
  • Assist with entry of the grant information in eResearch Proposal Management, ASSIST, and associated platforms.
  • Participate in review/editing/formatting of administrative shell documents.
  • Development of multi-year budgets associated with proposals and renewals.
  • Interpret regulations and guidelines of multiple programs funding with complex and broad guidelines for spending.
  • Ensure compliance with sponsor terms, University policies/procedures and federal regulations.
  • Request sub-PG?s, complete budget allocations, and initiate DBE?s for faculty, staff and students.
  • Develop and maintain subcontracts under award to include the financial oversight, review of invoices and timely billing.
  • Review and reconcile awards across cost share and sponsored research funds using MReports, Business Objects and other tools; process journal entries as needed. Prepare monthly reports with revenues, encumbrances, and projected balances. Report long-term financial viability of the SPORE and other projects given multiple complex grants and contracts from various sources with differing project end dates.
  • Collaborate with PIs to monitor grant progress and activities, establish and track encumbrances as necessary.
  • Manage standard reports and requests for financial information from the sponsor, sponsored programs, financial operations, subcontract sites and subaccounts, along with processing any sponsor carryforward/no cost extension requests should funds remain.
  • Create post-award change requests and supplements.
  • Collaborate with other MCTP team members to assure the SPORE is compliant with protocols, internal awards, meeting requirements for EABs and retreats.
  • Work with the team to manage the SPORE progress report, including effort, budgeting, compliance, and submission.
  • Complete award close out process and obtain signatures.
  • Serve as backup for MCTP Finance and Research Administration team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Candidates should have knowledge of UM policies and procedures.
  • Experience in pre-award activities including the steps involved with grant submission including knowledge withing submission platforms (eResearch Proposal Management, ASSIST, grants.gov, etc.)
  • Experience in grant administration for Federal and Non-Federal sponsors to include knowledge of Federal guidelines for grants, uniform guidance and cooperative agreements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Wolverine Access (MReports, Financials/Physical Resources, Human Resource Management System, Business Objects etc.)
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines, and strong attention to detail are necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Candidates should have the ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team environment, or independently, and interact effectively with faculty and peers
  • 5 - 7 years of progressive grant and contract experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced Degree Preferred for Senior position
  • Experience and/or familiarity with government multi-project grants.
  • Demonstrated experience with multi-project financial management and projection experience
  • Knowledge and capability with complex elements in proposals including NIH caps, cost sharing, and subcontract and/or sub-project distribution and allocation.
  • Familiarity and proficiency with UM datasets including Research, Finance, HR, and Financial Aid, with capability and technical skill in building reports using appropriate query and reporting tools such as Business Objects. Engage with other university experts in building fluency in report development using available data sets and business tools. Engage in research administrative service and professional development within and beyond the department.
  • Knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, federal and University regulations.
  • Ability to generate, analyze and clearly present organized and accurate data to any level within the organization.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures, specifically related to sponsored projects and financial systems; familiarity with ORSP, UMOR, FINOPS, Business Objects, Wolverine Access reporting tools including HR and Financial tools, faculty appointments and subcontracts
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) credentials
