About The Position

Plays a vital role in the sponsor project life cycle, ensuring that research proposals adhere to sponsor guidelines and are successfully submitted. Supports faculty, center directors, and staff throughout the pre-award stage of sponsored projects, including proposal preparation and submission, just-in-time requests, and compliance. Manages a portfolio of faculty post award and payroll sourcing activities with minimal supervision/oversight for a research-intensive department. May manage grants for Research Centers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education.
  • Relevant Experience (4 Years), Grants Administration (2 Years)

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the department’s research administration.
  • Identifies areas needing improvement and suggests solutions providing procedures for senior leadership to approve/implement.
  • Prepares, monitors, analyzes, manages and reports research division budgets.
  • Supervises and trains others in the submission of grant and contract proposals.
  • May oversee the submission and post award activities of research or clinical trial studies.
  • Supervises payroll function, identifies and assigns payroll to appropriate sources, designs and implements tracking system to monitor activity.
  • Supervises the purchasing function, ensuring maximum utilization of funds.
  • Prepares and manages annual salary planning process.
  • Responsible for communicating and administering all policies and procedures to faculty and staff.
  • Monitors compliance of faculty and staff with internal and external policies and procedures in the appropriate conduct of research.
  • Maintains personnel records; directly oversees scheduling of employees, evaluation process and personnel problems.
  • Reviews and screens job applications and applicants; conduct interviews, hire and/or make recommendations for hiring new personnel.
  • Periodically reviews all non-academic appointments to ensure that appropriate job descriptions, titles and salaries are continuously maintained.
  • Recommends and participates in development and implementation of decisions, policies & procedures; identify and implement best practices and innovations.
  • Implements and maintains procedures to ensure efficient work flow; responsible for the proper training of staff.
  • Maintains professional public relations and efficiently handles complaints.
  • Serves as liaison in matters relating to research activities between the Department, School, University, outside agencies and collaborative institutions.
  • Completes special projects as directed by senior leadership.
  • Organizes and attends meetings and conferences and participate in various Departmental and University committees.
  • Maintains confidential files.
