Rereeler - Rope Mill Rereelers are primarily responsible for quality control inspection, preparing material for cable manufacturing and/or distribution of orders. The rereeling process is to identify, by visual inspection, quality of cable/wire/rope by rereeling from the original spool/reel to designated spools/reels. Visual inspection is performed for the entire run and cutting lengths are based on customer requirement and ISO/AS work instructions, assuring adherence to quality, continuous improvement and medical standards. Performs other duties as required but which comply with ADA. Requirements

An individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
Mechanical aides: be able to use the following; C-7 or 16 Hand Cutters, Calculator, Calipers, Forklifts, Gauges, Hoists, Micrometers, Sliding Digital Scale, Stapler, Steel Rule, Tape Measure, Tape Gun, etc.
Have a working knowledge of the operation of the following machinery for the production of wire and cable products to closer tolerances of +/- .0005. An Operator may be crossed trained on other operations or machinery. The following is a list but is not limited to: 10" Respooler, Gang Respooler, Meteor Respoolers / Lock Wire Machines #1 and #2 / McMaster-Carr Coiling Machine . Testing Machines such as Digital Footer Counter, Tensile Tester, Welder and Molly Tester, etc.
A working knowledge is defined as: Knowing the proper way to move the equipment and set the equipment in-line. Properly hook up all necessary connections (air, water, lubrication, etc.). Install wire, wire rope, cable, and/or hardware for assemblies. Know all the controls and how to operate and adjust them (speeds, force, set and adjust cut length, end-cut squareness, control panels, temperatures, etc.). Know the safety features and danger areas of the equipment (pinch points, emergency stops, and safety switches, etc.).
Accountability looks at both effectiveness (whether or not a person is actually doing what should be done and achieving the outcomes desired) and efficiency (whether or not a person is performing in a productive and timely manner). Measures and standards of performance are derived from individual goals and objectives as outlined in reviews, supervision observations and department/company goals.
Performance measures look at: Productivity levels, cost-effectiveness and quality of product/service as compared to compliance with error tolerance levels established by customer specifications (RMAs, C/A, rework); Number of customer/client complaints filed; Percentage of scrap produced both individual and collectively; On-time delivery; Accuracy of information entered into databases, on work orders or other documentation; Documentation accuracy and timeliness.
Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time and demonstrates punctuality to scheduled work hours, breaks and lunches, meetings and scheduled appointments. Completes documentation in a timely fashion.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word, Lotus Notes, Excel. Experience with data entry.

Mechanical and Technical Skills: Some machines are controlled by computers and operators will need to work with technology. Others are highly mechanical and operators will need to know how and why they work. Read and understand blueprints, schematics, test results and other specifications.

Education and/or Experience Required:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to four years of manufacturing experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Standing, walking, pulling of cable and measuring assemblies on concrete floor, 30% to 60% of the time, on average. Walking is on average 25' to a maximum of 125'. Pulling of cable with a pulling force of 15 pounds to 20 pounds for an average distance of 12' to a maximum of 125'.
Able to cut cable with bench cutters using approximately 5 pounds to 20 pounds of downward pressure with momentum.
Able to load reels onto payoffs, requires downward force using a lever system and body weight, approximately 20 pounds of pressure, 5 to 7 times on average, per shift/day.
Able to unload reels from take ups, requires downward force using a lever system and body weight, approximately 20 pounds of pressure, 5 to 7 times on average, per shift/day.
Able to distinguish wire quality including smoothness, scraps, nicks, discoloration, and the like, by vision and touch. Eye-hand-foot coordination essential. High degree of hand/finger dexterity. Visual inspection, hand testing and monitoring of machines, products and the like. Requires 100% concentration and alertness.
Works in a manufacturing environment focused on cleanliness and safety in accordance with OSHA and company standards. Works in a climate where temperatures vary.
May be expected to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends, holidays and on other shifts, or short term transfers to other positions when necessary.

Responsibilities

Continuous Improvement and Training
Ensure the work area is clean prior to starting an operation; as an operation progresses and work debris accumulates; when an operation cannot continue; after an operation is completed and prior to inspection and at the end of each shift.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, by following daily housekeeping, PM's and FOD standards. This position requires good personal hygiene practices. This is a clean environment.
Complete any training needed to perform your essential duties. Any job-specific quality training deemed necessary by the quality department, including but not limited to, operation of job-specific machines, tools, measurements, gauges, workplace topics, procedures and practices.
Work with, and, train new or transfer employees, sharing knowledge and expertise.
Promote and maintain a culture and attitude of continuous improvement, working within the company team to make it a more efficient, safer, and enjoyable place to work. Attends and constructively participates in team and/or project meetings as scheduled.
Quality
Inspect parts and/or products for surface quality, color, appearance, diameter and dimensions, as called for by specifications, work orders, prints and/ or management and bring all quality concerns to the attention of Supervision.
Timely and accurately provides technical knowledge to obtain optimum production utilization and minimize scrap loss ensuring proper machine/equipment/people usage. Make necessary adjustments to correct quality defects after consulting with Supervision.
As part of maintenance measures, inspect equipment in use through troubleshooting, checking for any problems in them and fixing them or notifying Maintenance immediately if any, in order to prevent breakdown in the course of work.
Regular and predictable "physical presence" on-site attendance is an essential job function and a prerequisite to perform other functions of the job. Employees are expected to be present for their entire required shift; to complete any tasks that have been designated to them; are responsible for the specific duties that go along with their job; being consistent in doing the right thing in all aspects pertaining to their job and working together towards a common goal for the business.
Safety
Responsible for ensuring that prescribed protective equipment devices are used/worn. Observes safety and security procedures; advises Supervision/Management of potential and actual hazards/conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly at all times; Works in a manner that promotes prevention of accidents/ injuries/illness; practices good hygiene and takes every reasonable precaution in the circumstances for the protection of yourself and co-workers.
Documentation
Documentation must be accurate, legible, readily identifiable, retrievable and completed in a timely fashion. Maintain documentation to ensure retrieval of data and protection of proprietary information. Records (paper or electronic) such as: test records, Lotus, Visual (tags, issuing), WO, PO, PMs, logs, pick list, shipping advices and the like are required to prove conformity.
Properly complete, remove and/or generate new quality tags such as barcode, hold tags or RMA, etc. Ensure data entry is done timely.
Set-Up of Materials/Machines/Assemblies
Arrange machine at the beginning of work procedures to ensure that everything is in order including monitoring them for unusual noises or movements. Test the machine before main work begins to be sure that it’s in good condition for production. Set up all machine operation/ assemblies and verify information such as hardware, speed, size and shape into machine before it begins running. Complete any necessary documentation.
Set up and operate machinery and production runs from work orders, engineering blueprints, production diagrams, assembly drawings, cable and hardware part number system including first-piece approval verification to specifications, daily. Determine operating methods and sequences; lay outs, sets-ups of equipment, tools and fixtures to predetermined tolerances and lengths for production, development and run requirements. Insert all production materials in the various parts of the machine. Ensure that machines are calibrated and recalibrated before and after production procedures, where applicable.
Operation/Knowledge of Machines
Troubleshoot machine/production problems to determine actual faults. Strictly adhere to specification and ensure good quality work. Ensure timely preparation and availability of all production materials to avoid shortage during production. Report to Supervision regularly, keeping them updated on production activities and progress. Review blueprint/work order to ensure accuracy in production task.
Monitor all activities going on, record them for accuracy, clarification, and verification. Discern process variations through periodic checks and make any necessary adjustments. While the machine is in operation, monitor it closely to detect any signs of malfunctioning that may affect the quality of work and tackle it immediately to avoid it getting worse or excessive scrap/waste.
Inspect all finished products, checking for maintenance in production quality and standards. When it is noticed that some products are not within specification, they are reproduced to meet the set standards and/or disposition accordingly.
Put the previous job's completed order and documentation in the finished orders bin. Return the previous job's spec, tooling, excess packaging, check fixtures, and gauges back to their proper location when the job is finished.
May set up and make "first-article" check on difficult production runs. Includes supporting prototype development activities, working with engineers and mechanical designers on the design feasibility of prototype machine parts and assemblies relative to form, fit, function and cost.
Performs in-process inspections of all production orders, manufacturing processes, hardware manufacture, drawings and sampling plans. Records and maintains all inspection and test data completing relevant inspection forms in compliance with Quality Assurance Manuals and department specifications.
Able to identify and respond to material/products that are non-conforming. Knows criteria for acceptance/rejection. Familiar with Hold Tags, NMR, RMA’s, First Article Inspection, Disposition of Scrap or Expired Material, and the like, as applicable.
