This full-time position involves working with a diverse range of herpetological species, including a significant number of venomous snakes and crocodilians. While previous experience with these species is preferred, it is not a strict requirement. The role will also include care for non-venomous snakes, lizards, turtles, tortoises, and amphibians. Candidates must have proven experience with similar animals, as this position is responsible for the daily care, maintenance, and observation of the assigned animal collection and associated facilities. We are looking for an individual who takes pride in their work and possesses a high degree of professional experience. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader, a team player, and a positive coworker. The priorities for this position include a strong focus on animal care and health, fostering a positive team environment, and ensuring an excellent guest experience through shows, encounters, and informal interactions. Essential job functions include providing general husbandry for a wide range of animals, which encompasses cleaning, diet preparation and distribution, watering, observing, enclosure upkeep, monitoring health, and medicating under veterinary supervision. The Reptile Keeper will also maintain animal habitats through regular maintenance, landscaping, and oversight of life support systems, including lighting, filtration, heating, and air conditioning units. Data collection and input into animal records databases are crucial, ensuring that appropriate records are kept on all husbandry activities, including daily care and animal health. Exceptional time management techniques are necessary to keep all on- and off-exhibit areas clean, neat, and organized. The Reptile Keeper will demonstrate a positive attitude and a willingness to align with the Zoo's mission, understanding the significance of their role in positively impacting visitors. Proactive and friendly communication is expected at all times, along with anticipating visitors' needs and desires. Presenting various species to visitors during shows and private encounters is also a key responsibility. The Reptile Keeper will take direction from the Reptile Curator and perform daily husbandry duties, tasks, and non-routine assignments as needed, while collaborating with other zoo staff and departments to accomplish zoo initiatives. Regular inspections of enclosures, tanks, fencing, pools, furniture, and public areas for cleanliness and structural defects will be required, along with performing minor repairs and maintenance as needed. Familiarity with digital tools such as email, Google Drive, and task management systems will be essential for daily operations.
