About The Position

As a member of Transportation and Traffic Management (TTM), this position assists in development and implementation of efficient transportation services on and around the Columbus campus. This position will play a pivotal role in deriving actionable insights to support our operational strategy by proactively exploring data, asking insightful questions, and uncovering patterns to inform strategic decision-making for improvements to department operations and efficiency. This includes conducting deep-dive analyses that identify drivers of department performance and recommend actions to improve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Reviews data collection and raw data to identify validity issues and adjust as necessary to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data. Creates innovative reports, dashboards, interactive data visualizations and other visualizations regarding ridership, productivity and other KPIs as requested. Collaborate with Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) and external vendors to build new functions and reports in response to planning needs and requests. Identify opportunities with other university departments to develop and enhance dashboards & automated reporting tools to facilitate decision making for TTM. Exceptional critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills to effectively deliver insights to technical and non-technical audiences. Develops and presents oral, written, and graphic presentations that convey complex data, service change information and performance metrices in an accessible and understandable manner to a wide variety of audiences (staff, students, faculty, etc.). Proficiency using SQL, Python, and MS Excel for data manipulation, visualization, and analysis. Strong ability to analyze complex problems, dive deep into data, and design innovative solutions. Create and/or update documentation for internal policies, processes, and standard operating procedures. Provides support for department projects as assigned. May also contribute to project leadership and administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer and information science, data analysis, business administration, or related analytics field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills to effectively deliver insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency using SQL, Python, and MS Excel for data manipulation, visualization, and analysis.
  • Strong ability to analyze complex problems, dive deep into data, and design innovative solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience with database environments and database query tools.
  • Proven experience in problem resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience with SQL, Python or R, Excel and Access.
  • Proven experience conducting data analysis and developing and producing reports for information sharing is required.
  • Familiarity with operation of buses, bus routes, and scheduling.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.
