About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: The Reporting and Analytics Lead is responsible for leading the technology and processes required to turn data into information and information into business insights. This position is the senior member of a team of employees and contractors that designs, builds and delivers reporting and analytical products that are consumed across the enterprise. This position includes managing daily tasks for the team, sizing and prioritizing efforts, estimating delivery timelines, mentoring team members and translating detailed technical concepts into digestible, business language. The Reporting and Analytics Lead will define and leverage appropriate Business Intelligence (BI) development tools, techniques and methodologies, and will have a strong business acumen and an ability to guide and inspire the organization about the business potential and strategy of reporting and other self-service and non-self service data delivery solutions. The Reporting and Analytics Lead has a deep understanding of available enterprise data and the data structures available upon which to build reports and ensures all data-centric products developed by the team are constructed and maintained using best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering, mathematics, information management or a related quantitative field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • AND minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience successfully executing reporting, data engineering and data services delivery projects
  • AND minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience as the accountable leader for a team of business intelligence developers.
  • Advanced technical skills that allow the team lead to guide team members and step in and do hands-on data engineering, report development, data extractions, visualizations and presentations of results when needed
  • Expert SQL skills to build and query data structures and counsel team members on SQL best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate
  • Strong knowledge of data-centric product development processes, performance measurement and improvement methods, production infrastructure and best practices for deploying models into the business
  • Adept at building data pipelines and techniques for exploring, cleansing and visualizing data, as well as descriptive and prescriptive analytics approaches
  • Expertise with database programming languages including SQL, PL/SQL, or others for relational databases, graph databases or NOSQLoriented databases
  • Ability to recommend and select from several reporting, visualization and data delivery approaches to meet target outcomes within business constraints using best-practice techniques
  • Awareness of emerging AI tools, techniques and processes related to data analytics and reporting
  • Primarily desk position; regularly required to sit, occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • Requires frequent and repetitive use of hands and fingers to operate computer, mouse, keyboard, and office related equipment and the ability to reach with hands and arms.
  • Position requires lifting no more than 10 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close visual acuity and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires the ability to communicate verbally and exchange information over the phone and in person.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Team Leader and Mentor: Establish processes and procedures to frame business problems, design reporting and data delivery solutions, and conduct end-user validation with stakeholders Establish processes and procedures for consistent BI report and dashboard designs and standards Oversee the schemas and data structures within various data platforms to build reports and collaborate with the other to make design decisions for enterprise data models that will affect reporting efficiency Perform day-to-day review and oversight of reporting and analytics development work Improve the organization’s understanding of the value of and methods for data and report delivery Collaborate enterprise-wide and beyond to identify data driven opportunities and understand constraints; guide, inspire and strategize on data-driven initiatives to add value to the business Provide ongoing training, assessment, development, coordination and skill building of team members that is in alignment with the functional manager's direction Serve as a role model to others on the team by ensuring best practices are followed and taking a leadership role in projects
  • Serve as Reporting and Analytics product solution lead: Work with the reporting and analytics leadership to define data products and services that deliver business value Create repositories of reusable artifacts, catalogs and documentation to improve team efficiency, knowledge transfer and communication. Hold vendors accountable for the quality and usability of delivered analytic models and products Partner with business and technology partners in continuous improvement processes to help improve the quality of reporting and analytics products and services Recommend ongoing improvements to data capture methods, scientific and analysis methods and algorithms, etc. that lead to better outcomes and quality Network within the enterprise to gain business understanding and to guide and inspire others about the potential for reporting and data delivery solutions at Les Schwab
  • Production support for Reporting and Analytics Products: Set up operating procedures for production support of products deployed by the team Own the lifecycle of data platforms upon which production reports are built, recommending when to add, modify or decommission accordingly Track production support needs and team member skill sets and capacity in order to assist with defining vendor contracts and staffing plans for production support Track production use of reporting and analytics products and services in order to assist in planning product maintenance and decommissioning Develop, maintain and track reporting and analytics technology and process roadmaps
  • Stay current on best practices and technologies: Help improve the organization’s understanding of the value of and methods of various types of reporting (ad-hoc, productionalized, self-service) and visualization methods possible Help improve understanding of enterprise data models, semantic data layer Recommend future tools and processes needed to enhance reporting and analytics capabilities Support the overall maturity of Les Schwab’s Reporting and Analytics program and the BI portfolio as a whole
