The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), a recognized leader and innovator in public health and mental hygiene services nationally and internationally, seeks a dynamic Reporting Analyst to join its challenging, fast-paced division of Finance. The Division of Finance has central responsibility and authority for policy analysis, program development, performance tracking and improvement, financial management, resource maximization, and technical assistance. Finance helps to ensure that programs and administrative operations have the information, analysis, funding and technical capacity to deliver critical services effectively and meet DOHMH's objectives.   • Research and analyze public health data from electronic health records, billing systems, and other relevant sources.
  • Develop and implement research standards to ensure high-quality and reproducible research.
  • Stay up-to-date on latest methodologies in data analysis and research.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations summarizing research findings on data relevant to city public health initiatives.
  • Prepare financial reports and presentations for department leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Utilize data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI) to create interactive dashboards and reports that effectively communicate complex data findings.
  • Develop data-driven insights and recommendations to inform decision-making by agency leadership.
  • Coordinate with multiple teams to manage shared resources and ensure efficient project workflows.
  • Manage ad-hoc requests related to health data systems from internal or external parties.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests for health and financial data from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity through rigorous data cleaning and validation processes.
  • Provide general support of Finance systems; both internal and external.
  • Other related tasks as assigned by the management staff.
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
  • A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to '1' or '2' above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in '2' above.
  • Data Modeling: Designing data models that optimize for querying and reporting efficiency.
  • Software Engineering Best Practices: Version control, code review, and testing to ensure data pipeline reliability.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Collaboration: Working effectively with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders.
  • Communication: Explaining complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring data accuracy and consistency in reporting.
