About The Position

The Information is seeking a sharp, intrepid reporter to cover the intersection of tech and politics, at a moment when Silicon Valley figures are enjoying unprecedented influence in the corridors of power in Washington, D.C. The Trump administration is pushing to unleash the AI industry by rolling back guardrails, accelerating adoption across government and defense and making the technology a key pillar of national competitiveness for the U.S. Powerful figures from the space, defense tech, crypto and semiconductor businesses are actively seeking to shape trade policies, win government contracts or simply avoid the ire of President Trump. And apps like TikTok are playing key roles in the geopolitical relations between the U.S. and China. At the same time, the coming years could see unprecedented turbulence for tech and its political allies, if public concerns about the power of big tech, AI and the impact of social media on kids swell into full blown backlashes. If you’re energized by these topics and telling stories about them this beat has your name on it. You’ll report and write stories packed with original reporting and news that illuminate the web of connections between Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C. And you’ll explain complex policy fights in clear, compelling ways for a smart, influential audience that wants to understand not just what is happening, but who is driving it and why it matters.
