About The Position
The Nassau County Record is seeking a dedicated and versatile full-time news and sports reporter/photographer to enhance its newsroom. This position is not just about covering sports; the ideal candidate will possess strong writing skills and the ability to craft compelling news and feature stories across a variety of topics. The role will involve writing news articles that inform the community about local events, issues, and developments, as well as covering youth, middle, and high school sports. The candidate must be able to balance the demands of reporting on sports with the need to cover broader news stories, ensuring a well-rounded approach to journalism. Photography is a key component of this role, as the reporter will be responsible for capturing images that accompany their stories. This includes attending local events and sporting activities, where the candidate will need to demonstrate an eye for detail and the ability to convey the essence of the moment through their photographs. Knowledge of AP Style is essential for this position, although it can be learned on the job for those who may not be familiar with it. The reporter will be expected to work nights, particularly during the football season when Friday nights will be a regular commitment, along with occasional assignments on Saturdays and Sundays.
