About The Position

The New York Times is seeking a talented, experienced, and versatile reporter to join the National desk's "jump squad." This team is dedicated to covering the country's biggest and most captivating stories daily, aiming to dominate the national conversation. The role involves actively searching out and responding to breaking news events across the country, working closely with regional correspondents and bureau chiefs to deliver timely and impactful journalism. The ideal candidate must be able to quickly cultivate news sources, secure scoops, and drive coverage, writing precisely and in various formats while managing tight deadlines. The position requires comfort with both immediate breaking news and thoughtful, in-depth reporting, emphasizing collaboration with colleagues across the newsroom. This is an in-office position based in New York City, with potential for extensive travel within the United States.

Requirements

5+ years’ experience at a journalism or media company or other relevant organization
Writing skills that demonstrate mastery of journalistic style and standards, including ethical and superb news judgments
A portfolio that includes breaking news, enterprise, visual story formats and analysis across a range of subjects.
