About The Position

About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 09 The Team : Our team is dedicated to providing in-depth coverage of federal power policy, navigating the complexities of energy and climate initiatives. We are seeking an experienced reporter who can expertly balance beat reporting with enterprise features, focusing on the dynamic landscape of clean energy initiatives, competitive power markets, electric transmission, grid reliability, and federal funding for climate change and energy policies. Our collaborative environment fosters professional growth and encourages innovative storytelling, ensuring that our reporting remains impactful and relevant in this ever-evolving sector. Responsibilities and Impact : Your focus on the US power sector and the laws and policies that help to shape it will produce critical insights on many of the defining questions of the decades ahead. Your thought-provoking news and analysis will be distributed across major S&P Global platforms including Capital IQ Pro, Platts' Core and Connect by S&P Global.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional journalism experience.
  • Strong writing and reporting skills, along with excellent news judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute story ideas.
  • Ability to understand and translate into easy-to-understand language dense policy and legal documents.

Responsibilities

  • Write clear, concise, and engaging stories that inform and educate our readers.
  • Cover hearings, speeches and conferences.
  • Interview policymakers, executives and other key stakeholders.
  • Help drive our coverage strategy around federal actions on power policy amid a period of significant flux, including agency rulemakings and court rulings.
  • Develop and use data, analysis and visuals to support your reporting and make your stories more impactful.
  • Build readership throughout the industry and among regulatory, legal and other decision-makers.
  • Cover the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's power policies and initiatives.
  • Coverage of the US Environmental Protection Agency's policies and rules.
  • Follow US Dept. of Energy's efforts to incentivize and fund energy infrastructure and other initiatives.
  • Perform relevant data analyses, including using in-house data to assess the energy industry impacts of federal actions.
  • Cover federal court proceedings reviewing federal agency actions.
