About The Position
As a Deckhand at Alcatraz Cruises, LLC, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our guests aboard a US Coast Guard inspected small passenger vessel. Under the direct supervision of the First Officer, you will be responsible for practicing good seamanship techniques while fulfilling various job tasks associated with Deck Security & Safety Watch, Customer Service, and stewardship of our Respect our Planet program. This position is part-time and may be subject to change due to collective bargaining agreements. Your adaptability and dynamic nature will be essential in embodying City Experiences' RESPECT Service System, which emphasizes respect, environment, safety, professionalism, communication, and teamwork. In this role, you will prepare the vessel for operational readiness, tend mooring lines during vessel maneuvers, and stand watch as the Deck Safety & Security Officer. You will perform safety functions as assigned on the Watch Quarter and Emergency Station Bill, and carry out navigational duties such as lookout, Quarter Master Messenger, Radio Watch, Signal Man, or Helmsman as directed by the Captain or First Officer. Familiarity with ground tackle, emergency gear, deck gear, and vessel emergency plans is crucial, as is ensuring preventative maintenance in the deck and engine room. Your responsibilities will also include assisting with passenger loading and unloading, maintaining clean passenger spaces, lubricating machinery, splicing lines and wire rope, and providing assistance to guests regarding Alcatraz Island and other attractions. This position may involve additional duties as assigned, and you will be expected to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and safety throughout your shifts.
