About The Position

Reports directly to the designated immediate manager for the specific practice or outpatient department. Responsible for scheduling patient appointments. Interviews patients to obtain appropriate demographic and financial information. Registers patients and performs other registration functions. Obtains necessary signatures and documentation from patients for billing and insurance purposes. Orders laboratory tests and other tests via the computer system at the direction of the physicians. Performs end-of-day disposition and gathers appropriate statistical information relating to patients. Announces the arrival of patients and answers incoming telephone calls for the department/practice. Serves as a liaison between patients, nurses, physicians, and others. Provides excellent customer service and greets patients entering the department/practice. A professional multi-skilled person dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice including administrative and clinical procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduate from approved Medical Assistant program (for employees hired on or after February 15, 2018).
  • Excellent decision making skills and initiative.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in English.
  • Basic arithmetic skills for cashiering.
  • Data entry experience.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and organize workflow.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations professionally.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of ambulatory health care or related health care fields.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution.
  • Medical assistant certification within 6 months of hire/transfer (for employees hired on or after August 1, 2021).
  • Current BLS from the American Heart Association.

Nice To Haves

  • ICD-9 and CPT coding preferred.
  • Completion of a standard terminology course would be helpful.
  • Two to four (2-4) years clerical/customer service experience preferred, ideally in a health care related industry.
  • One (1) year experience with third party payors and computer experience for inputting data and reviewing patient demographic material preferred.
  • One (1) year Medical Assistant experience preferred.
