JOB SUMMARY: Perform duties of the dispatcher for Empire's assigned work area. Use discretion and judgment to solve client disputes and dispatch system problems. Professionally assist clients to enhance a positive service image within the department. Determine shipment, delivery, and pickup priorities. Oversee scheduling transport shipments and meet delivery commitments. Assist in the most efficient use of drivers and equipment. Maintain cost control for overtime and expenses. Maintain the proper mix of company and for hire trucks on the road at all times. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Oversee dispatching of Empire trucks locally, statewide, branch-store and/or nationally for assigned work area. Assign tractors and trailers according to the type of load, point of origin, and destination. Oversee drivers' activities and offer assistance as needed. Ensure the staff is on task with their duties. Oversee the expenses and recovery of the permits and escorts. Oversee the communications between the clients and drivers for assigned work area. Maintain control over the outside hauling expenses and recovery. Assist in quoting hauls and overseeing the client billing, ensuring the billed amount equals the quoted amount. Keep track of all hauls that cannot be performed by EMPIRE and the reasons why. Continue to keep current with the transportation industry. Seek additional knowledge of value to enhance operating proficiency. Know and recognize state licensing and registration laws and insurance requirements. Maintain communication with the shop personnel and know what equipment is available for service. Helps maintain safety and compliance records such as Daily Vehicle Inspections and Annual Inspections. Assign loads responsibly. Communicate with clients to schedule loads. Communicate Empire's safety policies and expectations. Create an environment of ownership and personal accountability where each person is responsible and accountable for their performance. Work safely at all times. Adhere to all applicable safety policies. Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain communication with the shop personnel. Know what equipment is available for service. Perform other duties assigned by management. Communicate with clients to schedule loads. May assist permit & escort coordinator. Work within and promote corporate values.
