About The Position

The position involves supervising staff and overseeing the Rendering production in the Rendering department during the first shift. The supervisor is responsible for ensuring the operation of the plant in six key areas: Production, Quality, Safety, Cost, Housekeeping, and Employee Relationship. This role requires active participation in production, including relieving various positions during breaks and ensuring operational efficiencies to meet deadlines. Regular plant checks are necessary to ensure work is performed safely and efficiently, and to meet receiving and shipping schedules. The supervisor will provide instructions to employees, check quality standards of raw and finished products, and ensure acceptable production flows of raw materials. Additionally, the supervisor will monitor department operations, control overtime costs, and lead by example.

Requirements

  • Supervisory experience in a production environment.
  • Proficient computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Strong communication skills to maintain employee relationships and morale.
  • Ability to conduct performance appraisals and safety audits.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff and oversee Rendering production on first shift.
  • Ensure operation of the plant in Production, Quality, Safety, Cost, Housekeeping, and Employee Relationship.
  • Participate in production and relieve positions during breaks to maintain efficiency.
  • Conduct regular plant checks for safety and efficiency.
  • Ensure receiving and shipping schedules are met.
  • Provide instructions to employees on tasks and quality standards.
  • Monitor production flows of raw materials and make necessary adjustments.
  • Control overtime costs and lead by example.
  • Maintain morale and discipline among employees and foster good relationships.
  • Troubleshoot plant problems and assist maintenance with equipment repairs.
  • Conduct regular performance appraisals and keep evaluations up to date.
  • Perform safety audits and fill out necessary reports and checklists.
  • Oversee training and cross-training of employees on equipment operation.
  • Enforce HACCP, APPI, and Salmonella Program procedures and safety regulations.
  • Review notes from prior shifts and discuss concerns with the Rendering Superintendent.
  • Communicate daily with the second shift Supervisor about department status and issues.
