About The Position

The Peer Facilitator role at West Virginia University Research Corporation involves leading support groups for individuals undergoing treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD) and chronic pain. This part-time, remote position is part of a clinical research study aimed at improving treatment retention and outcomes for patients dealing with both OUD and chronic pain. The facilitator will provide support, encourage discussion, and help participants navigate their treatment journey, while also engaging in light documentation and team meetings.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Personal lived experience with opioid use disorder (OUD) and chronic pain.
  • Experience with taking buprenorphine (currently or previously).
  • Comfortable discussing personal experiences with OUD, chronic pain, and buprenorphine treatment.
  • Successful self-management of chronic pain and OUD.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of a group.
  • Access to the internet.

Responsibilities

  • Lead weekly or bi-weekly support groups for study participants via Zoom or phone call.
  • Encourage discussion and help members navigate conflict during group sessions.
  • Offer support from a perspective of successful pain and OUD management.
  • Conduct reminder calls to participants before group sessions.
  • Take notes and complete light documentation after group sessions.
  • Attend meetings and training with members of the study team.
