About The Position

The Assistant Director for HSC Pre Award at West Virginia University is responsible for leading the pre-award sub-department within the Office of Research and Graduate Education. This role involves overseeing grant submissions, providing operational leadership, and ensuring compliance with sponsor and university requirements. The Assistant Director will also supervise staff, engage in strategic planning, and serve as a primary liaison with the WVU Office of Sponsored Programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• Minimum of six years of experience in grants and contracts administration.
• Minimum of three years of supervisory or program management experience.
• Experience with electronic proposal submission and routing systems.
• Knowledge of federal regulations affecting sponsored projects.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the leader of the pre-award sub-department and provide supervisory recommendations to the Director.
• Oversee the review and approval of all grant submissions to extramural sponsors.
• Engage in strategic planning for research administration processes.
• Manage personnel matters for direct reports, including performance evaluations and leave approvals.
• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures in collaboration with the Director.
• Advise faculty and staff on grant proposal development and compliance with regulations.
• Coordinate training processes for new employees in research administration.
• Facilitate meetings and training sessions for professional development.
• Oversee the HSC 'Tweak My Aims' initiative to enhance proposal development.
• Evaluate proposals for compliance with sponsor regulations.
