About The Position

In this role, you will lead and elevate the accounting function of a rapidly growing, nationwide business services firm. You will act as both a strategic and operational leader, guiding the accounting team, strengthening workflows, and shaping the long-term structure of the department. This position offers the chance to build scalable systems, mentor future leaders, and directly impact client outcomes by providing accurate, actionable financial insights. You will manage financial reporting, oversee month-end close, improve operational processes, and ensure the department can scale efficiently. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA preferred but not required
  • 6+ years of experience in public accounting or outsourced accounting
  • Experience supervising staff and managing accounting operations in a multi-client or CAS environment
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards, month-end close best practices, and cloud-based accounting systems (Xero, QBO, payroll systems, dashboards)
  • Proven success leading remote or distributed teams
  • Ability to troubleshoot accounting issues, lead change, and implement scalable processes
  • High ownership, initiative, and growth-minded approach
  • Strong communication skills, able to convey complex financial information clearly
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of operating in fast-paced environments

Responsibilities

  • Lead the accounting department, including hiring, mentoring, and developing supervisors and senior accountants into future managers
  • Establish long-term department structure, processes, and scalable workflows
  • Oversee month-end close, financial reporting, and quality control to ensure accurate, actionable insights for clients
  • Improve accounting systems, processes, and implement automation or AI-assisted tools where beneficial
  • Collaborate with onboarding and operations teams to ensure smooth client transitions
  • Manage client escalations and communicate complex financial information clearly and practically
  • Foster a culture of accountability, clarity, accuracy, and initiative across the team
