About The Position

Chicago Behavioral hospital central business office is seeking a detail-driven Remit Specialist to join our business Office Team. This role is essential to ensuring accurate account resolution by reviewing and interpreting remittance advice from payor, noting trends, and writing up appropriate contractual and denial-related adjustments. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, experience in behavioral health, and a deep understanding of insurance reimbursement processes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience in revenue cycle, medical billing, or remittance processing, preferably in a behavioral health or hospital setting.
  • Solid understanding of remittance formats, contractual adjustments, and denial reason codes.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Review remittance advices (ERAs/EOBs) to identify payment, denial, and adjustment information.
  • Apply appropriate write-offs, contractual adjustments, and denials based on payor policies.
  • Accurately note account activity in the system, clearly documenting reasons for adjustments or non-payment.
  • Identify and escalate trends in denials or payment discrepancies to leadership.
  • Collaborate with follow-up and collections teams to ensure timely resolution of remaining account balances.
  • Maintain compliance with payer contracts, billing guidelines, and HIPAA regulations.
