About The Position

The Religious Freedom Analyst, Senior will provide support services to advance the client’s mission by actively monitoring global developments in religious freedom. This role includes developing strategies, initiatives, and policy responses tailored to assist embassies and other bureaus in effectively addressing these developments. Core responsibilities encompass the review of unclassified and classified information sources, conducting research, drafting documents, managing data entry within appropriate computer systems, facilitating verbal and written communications, and engaging with relevant stakeholders both internal and external. Requirements

  • Master’s degree or other post-graduate degree preferred, or five years of experience is required.
  • Specialized expertise and experience related to religious freedom or related rights advocacy and coalition-building and networking.
  • Experience in public affairs and policy research and analysis in international relations/affairs.
  • Knowledge of research and analytical methods to validate, evaluate and interpret information obtained from a variety of sources.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, policies, and regulations regarding human rights and religious freedom.
  • Secret Clerance is required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a clear, professional, and articulate manner.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast past environment with changing priorities; adaptable to change and a quick learner.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as on a multi-functional team.

  • Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Strong analysis and research skills to provide recommendations and technical advice and to participate in meetings and discussions.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the AAL, Senior Official and other Office leadership regarding special projects, such as building international networks and strategic public messaging on the mandate and work of the office.
  • Manage efforts to build more effective and independent international alliances and networks that promote freedom of religion or belief through coordinated action.
  • Ensuring policymakers have access to information about conditions on the ground, developing trends, and take action to assist members of negatively affected religious communities in furtherance of policy priorities toward international religious freedom.
  • Establishing robust and action-oriented communication regarding opportunities to advance religious freedom, including sharing best practices on preventing or addressing those challenges.
  • Track initiatives and communications related to special projects with the client, interagency partners, and external non-governmental organization (NGO) interlocutors.
  • Propose and design effective public messaging on these projects
  • Monitor abuses of religious freedom or positive developments related to the state of religious freedom in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Review media sources, non-government organizations (including religious groups), privately provided information, and classified reporting channels.
  • Travel periodically to assigned countries/regions in support of the client, senior officials, or other members of office leadership, or for purposes of information gathering and country conditions monitoring.
  • Undertakes research (via both open source and classified systems) and prepares reports and analyses of the actions of foreign government officials who may be responsible for having committed or overseen the commission of severe violations of religious freedom.
  • Help compile and contribute information to the annual international reports.
  • Help compile and contribute information to other related reports.
  • Prepare information for entry into relevant computer systems and to inform policy decisions and to inform determinations regarding statutory visa ineligibility.
  • Analyzes religious freedom-related developments in assigned areas of thematic focus.
  • Briefing senior officials on the implications of such developments.
  • Drafting and editing written products related to the state of religious freedom and related rights.
  • Provide periodic oral briefings for senior department officials on these topics.
  • Respond to specific requests for information on religious freedom from the client and other government agencies or representatives of like-minded partners.
  • Help compile project results, develop strategic plans for outreach, and engagement and assist in their implementation.
  • Participate in workshop training exercises and briefings to disseminate information about religious freedom, including best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
