About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Relief Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. This is a relief position that will require working some shifts in our Summerville location. The pay for this position ranges from $20.00 to $40.50 per hour, depending on experience and advancement through our leveling system. We are looking for technicians who thrive in a fast-paced, learning environment and are passionate about providing care and comfort to critically ill or injured pets.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Veterinary Technician, particularly in emergency and critical care settings.
  • Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring and recovery.
  • Ability to perform triage and obtain vital signs.
  • Knowledge of digital radiography techniques.
  • Understanding of medical math and medication administration.
  • Skills in phlebotomy and catheter placement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in mentoring and training other staff members.
  • Strong communication skills to address client concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
  • Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
  • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
  • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  • Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
  • Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
