About The Position

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Relief Valve Service Support Technician plays a critical, hands on role within the valve service team. Working under the direction of the Relief Valve Service Lead Technician, this position supports all phases of inspection, teardown, testing, rebuilding, and documentation of pressure relief valves and associated flow control equipment. This role is ideal for entry level or early career individuals seeking to develop strong mechanical, technical, and troubleshooting skills in a high growth service environment. SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Valve Service Support Assist Lead Technician with incoming inspection, tagging, and documentation of relief valves and associated components. Support teardown, cleaning, and preparation of valves including PRVs, control valves, ball valves, actuators, thief hatches, and vent valves. Organize replacement parts, repair kits, springs, gaskets, and hardware needed for rebuild operations. Clean and prepare valve bodies, internals, and flanges using approved shop practices. Testing & Diagnostics Assistance Set up and prepare test equipment for hydrostatic, pneumatic, and bench testing under supervision. Monitor gauges, record test readings, and document “as found” and “as left” conditions. Assist with basic calibration tasks and pressure setting adjustments as directed. Assembly & Rebuild Support Reassemble valves following guidance from the Lead Technician, ensuring proper installation of internals, sealing surfaces, springs, O rings, packing, and associated components. Apply correct torque to fasteners using torque wrenches per specification. Help verify smooth mechanical operation prior to final testing. Shop & Field Readiness Maintain a clean, organized, and safe service bench. Support inventory management of small parts, consumables, and rebuild kits. Assist in preparing service trucks, tools, and testing equipment for field work as required. Follow all company safety protocols including PPE requirements, Lockout/Tagout, hazardous materials handling, and site specific guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training is a plus.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn valve service procedures.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and basic measuring devices.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and perform work in both shop and field environments.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow work instructions, test procedures, and safety policies.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical principles, measurements, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to recognize unusual conditions or potential problems and report them promptly.
  • Ability to remain focused on detailed tasks for extended periods.
  • Must communicate clearly and effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently with appropriate supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, schedules, and customer needs.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, reach, and handle components for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with pressure relief valves, control valves, actuators, ball valves, thief hatches, and vent valves (training provided).
  • Experience in industrial maintenance, mechanical assembly, or oil & gas service environments.
