About The Position

ASCEND Mental Wellness is dedicated to helping individuals discover pathways to optimal mental health and wellness. Our mission is rooted in fostering hope and awareness within the community, ensuring that everyone has access to the support they need. We are seeking a Support Specialist to join our team East Side Center team as a part of our Support Services Program. In this role, you will play a vital part in assisting individuals on their journey towards mental wellness. Your contributions will directly impact our mission of promoting well-being and awareness in the community. The hours you could be called in for would be Mon-Fri 9am-2pm.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in food service recommended but not required
  • Experience working in human services and/or strong interest in the field of mental health
  • Valid NYS driver's license acceptable to Agency insurance standards. Must maintain a valid license.
  • Must be of good character and background and display an affinity for working with people with mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders.
  • Must have the ability to work independently, have good problem solving skills and have the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Assure the highest degree of member satisfaction, providing quality and efficient services and maintaining an atmosphere of professional service in a client-centered setting.
  • Preparation, cooking, and service of a variety of foods as needed.
  • Facilitate group activities as needed.
  • Related work as required.
  • Provide supportive counseling to clients as appropriate, encourage and model effective communication, personal and interpersonal awareness, and client-centered approach.
  • Provide behavioral intervention when necessary and work with clients to establish adequate self-control of problem behavior.
  • Maintain a safe environment for all clients and staff.
  • Maintain effective communication with other staff members and supervisor.
  • Preserve human dignity and confidentiality of all clients and act in the best interest of those served through the Agency's programs and services.
  • Assure quality of work at all times.
  • Adhere to all laws and regulations applicable to the Agency's business.
  • Adhere to the Agency's Corporate Compliance Program and established policies and procedures.
  • Positively represent the Agency within the community at all times.
  • Have adequate computer skills, or more refined for specific job titles.
  • Actively participate in Agency sponsored staff development and in-service educational programs as deemed necessary by supervisor, including mandatory trainings assigned per job title.
