About The Position

6W Burn Trauma Stepdown Unit is a 24 Bed Stepdown Unit at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. 6W is a unique unit at MUSC and within the state as the only Burn Stepdown unit. All 6W’s rooms are monitored with 8 rooms being ventilator compatible. All nurses are trained in complex burn dressing changes and are supported by members of the Burn Team and Free-Floating Charge Nurse. Robust unit leadership supports onboarding of new graduate nurses and monitor quality metrics. Our nurses work collaboratively with the Burn Physician Team, Trauma Physician Team Respiratory Therapists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Case Managers, and Social Workers to customize care for patients. 6W offers opportunities for nurses to obtain Med-Surg, Burn, and Trauma certifications. The Registered Nurse II / Relief Staff Leader (RSL) reports to the Nurse Manager. Under general supervision, the RN II/RSL provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process. This role delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes. As assigned, this position provides department/shift leadership in RSL role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
  • RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details.
  • A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
