Bill Wilson Center provides services to children, youth, young adults, and families in Santa Clara County. Additionally, we reach clients through our street outreach and crisis line programs. Bill Wilson Center programs focus on Housing, mental health care, supportive services, and advocacy. Job Summary: The Residential Counselor will primarily assist with prevention services in both group and individual settings. The Residential Counselor will co-facilitate prevention and substance abuse groups and conduct individual risk assessments.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Experience working with homeless and culturally diverse youth is required—knowledge of the needs of runaway, homeless, and street youth. Availability in the evenings and on weekends is a requirement for the position.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Driving is a requirement of the job (a valid California driver's license, access to a personal vehicle for company business, and current personal automobile insurance). Fingerprinting/background check as required by the Department of Justice and/or Title XXII regulations. TB test required.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts as required for reporting.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software. Internet research skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provides intake and assessment services.
  • Assists with drug prevention services, including individual, group, and community activities.
  • Assists with prevention services, including individual, group, and community activities.
  • Services as an appropriate role model for youth.
  • Advocates for Youth.
  • Accesses community resources to meet the needs of youth.
  • Maintain statistical data and complete reports as appropriate. Enter ALL client data into AWARDS AND HMIS systems. Must maintain AWARDS and HMIS, ensuring they are updated with all client information and data.
  • Attend Agency and other program meetings as appropriate.
  • Participate in Agency Program Quality Improvement activities and initiatives.
  • Participate in agency Safety initiatives and proactively report safety issues to management immediately.
  • Complete program and financial documentation according to program and agency standards.
  • Maintains statistics and records as required.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and tidiness of the working area, buildings, and vehicles, and reports maintenance or safety issues to the manager immediately
  • Regular attendance required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
