About The Position

The Relief Pharmacy Technician I assists pharmacists with inventory and inspections, including maintaining records of such. The technician receives and processes orders, packages drugs, and maintains pharmacy spaces in an orderly manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • College level coursework in chemistry to medical related disciplines preferred.
  • Must be in process of obtaining a Pharmacy Technician license from the State of Alaska.
  • Must be able to successfully pass the State of Alaska background check for licensing requirement.
  • Ability to make accurate measurements and conversions from the English metric measurement systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of healthcare professionals.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Need to be familiar with the use of computers.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Registered Pharmacist, inspects all locations where drugs are stored on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Checks all items for current dating and replenishes drugs and supplies to par levels.
  • Maintains records of all inspections.
  • Receives, prioritizes, packages, and mails village clinic drug and pharmacy supply orders.
  • Communicates with village health aides for clarification or problems with orders.
  • Performs a variety of drug packaging and labeling dates.
  • Communicates with physicians, nurses, and other personnel regarding drug availability and dosage forms.
  • Performs regular inventories and prepares drug and supply orders.
  • Receives, unpacks, and stores drug supplies.
  • Rotates inventory to ensure current dating and removes outdated drugs for return.
  • Maintains pharmacy and drug storage areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Cleans utensils, glassware, counters, and sinks as needed.
  • Maintains storage shelves in an orderly manner.
  • Reviews physician orders for intravenous solution additives.
  • Calculates and prepares additive drugs, materials, and labels required for admixtures.
  • Assists in the bulk as assigned.
  • Identifies correct auxiliary labels for each medication as experience is obtained.
  • Performs and/or assumes other job- or work-related duties as assigned.
