About The Position

The Relief Counselor/Advocate provides counseling, intervention, and referrals to victims of abuse and their dependent children. This role includes providing emergency shelter/bridge housing coverage, building security, and maintenance. The position requires working weekday overnights, weekend overnights, and holidays across all shifts. The incumbent will maintain strict confidentiality of all program participants’ identification and information, providing various forms of support and assistance to victims of abuse.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Services or related field preferred.
  • High School Diploma and three years related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of issues confronted by victims of abuse.
  • Knowledge of civil, criminal and family court systems, and community agency support services available to victims of domestic violence.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Products.
  • Child abuse, criminal and FBI clearances as required by the state and DVCCC.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all program participants’ identification and information.
  • Provide shelter coverage and security for program participants, monitoring the building a minimum of 4 times during an 8-hour shift.
  • Provide crisis counseling, follow-up counseling, group treatment/support groups, and information and referral services to victims.
  • Assist with the development of residential service plans and monitor actions to achieve goals.
  • Track residential compliance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for tracking the availability of beds and data entry of program participant files.
  • Assist residents with cleaning and other household tasks.
  • Perform assigned office tasks including preparing monthly shelter statistics and filing client files.
  • Document repairs and equipment needed on standardized forms.
  • Participate in agency-wide events and assist with accomplishing agency-wide annual goals.
